MAITANE RECIO

GOING TO FESTIVALS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER

During all these months with a pandemic between being quarantined and having curfews, it has been noticeable how essential is the work that local businesses do, especially those who do all the products themselves. Their work until this day has had no meaning for anyone, it was undervaluated in this country. Same happened with film festivals and independent films. Sadly, people still have not given them the recognision they deserve.

The storylines these movies have are often not chosen by big production companies because they are not under what these companies envision for their type of market. All measured by what the heteronorm says, followed by what will make them gain more money. A true shame because those two things should be not in the list or in the lastest points of it. But it is known that it is just a way to keep silencing minorities and keep their white conservative audience peaceful.

This is the reason if the progressive audiences really want a change in the industry, they must start going to not-so-known festivals and support independent films. Not-so-known festivals becaause they are the game-changers. Having an audience talking widely about these movies would catch distribution companies' eyes and give them the opportunity to get the love, support and recognition they deserve. In another countries, this has happened and these projects have even nominated to the biggest awards you can imagine.

These stories must be known and told in order to society see other points of views other than the white heterosexual one.
