Last December 4th, the city hall of Madrid put up the commemorative plaque honoring Cristina Ortiz, known as La Veneno, again in the West Park of the city.
In April of 2019, the plaque was stolen from its place in the park one week after it was put up by the previous government of the city of Madrid. They condemned the act but no further action was taken.
The dilemma of whether putting the plaque or not and in the West Park was voted in favor for almost every political group in 2018. The West Park is the place the artist recalled to be the happiest with her friends and also, where she wanted her ashes to be spread.
A LGTB+ organization called Arcópolis reached out to Más Madrid and jointly demanded this last October of 2019, to the corresponding institution, to put the plaque back. But they answered saying that they were studying its replacement to try to not make it a point of vandalism and it turns out to be a problem and an extra expense.
Eventually, one year and two months later from that statement, on December 4th, the local government of Madrid put the memorial back with the text: “In memory of Cristina Ortiz ‘La Veneno’ brave transexual woman visible in the 90’s”.
